5.1.1 · Fair employment

Employment for Andean communities

Real opportunities for the Andean communities where we operate.

We work directly with the active workforce of the Andean communities where we operate, promoting fair employment opportunities, training programmes and economic inclusion for men and women over 18 years old.

These communities are our primary source of employment for porters on the Inca Trail and alternative trekking routes, as well as for horsemen, muleteers, cooks and support staff whose work — together with their pack animals — is essential for the success and safety of our expeditions.

We prioritise respectful working conditions, fair wages, adequate equipment and ongoing support for every member of our trekking teams.

the traditional agricultural wage

A trained community member working with our company can earn, on average, up to eight times more than the traditional agricultural wage — generating a significant and sustainable impact on local families and community economies.

A tangible impact for every family

Through tourism, many families are able to improve access to education, healthcare, nutrition and better living conditions for future generations.

  • Access to quality education
  • Healthcare and nutrition
  • Better housing conditions
  • Opportunities for sons and daughters
  • Strengthened family economy
  • Dignified labour inclusion
